Mike Watts

Co-founder and CEO - NOVEL ENTERTAINMENT

Mike Watts is CEO of Novel Entertainment. His career in the entertainment industry has spanned television, music, video and film. Prior to setting up Novel, Mike was Senior Vice President of Programming for Walt Disney International Television, with responsibility for producing and acquiring programmes for the international Disney Channels.

Previously he had been Managing Director of leading drama producer World Productions, and before that spent four years as Managing Director of Production at Central Independent Television, one of the largest ever programme providers to the ITV Network.

Prior to joining Central Mike was Managing Director of Virgin Vision, the video and film distributor, where he was instrumental in the financing of a number of independent feature films including Stephen Soderbergh's award-winning sex, lies and videotape, the Richard Curtis penned film The Tall Guy, Gus Van Sant's Drugstore Cowboy and the launch of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film franchise.

Mike started his career in the music business working for a number of record companies, latterly as International Director of Chrysalis Records.

Mike is currently a Council Member of the film and television producers' trade association Pact and Chair of Pact's Children's and Animation Policy Group as well as being a trustee of the Television Workshop.

Mike co-founded Novel Entertainment with award winning producer Lucinda Whiteley in 2001. The company specialises in the creation and development of successful children's character brands across a wide array of media. Novel's core programmes include Horrid Henry, Fimbles, The Roly Mo Show, Rockit's Pocket and Ping & Pong. Since 2001 the company has produced over 650 programmes for television and radio, garnering multi BAFTA and RTS Award nominations, as well as a number of stage shows based on the company's leading characters. The company's brand experience extends into licensing and merchandising, computer games, interactive online content, music and film.
