Novel Entertainment was created in 2001 by producers Lucinda Whiteley and Mike Watts.

In 2001, Novel was commissioned by BBC Television and BBC Worldwide to produce the iconic pre-school live action series Fimbles. To date the company has produced 200 episodes of the programme, which have been seen in over 74 territories worldwide, including Australia, France, Spain, Italy, Korea and Japan. Fimbles has been nominated three times for the BAFTA Children's Awards and nominated as Best Children's Programme at the 2005 Indie Awards.
